Modelling, Simulation and Analysis

Overview

Shoal maintains a core capability in the modelling, simulation and analysis of complex systems, with particular expertise in guided aerospace weapons and vehicles. This capability is built upon a team of high-calibre professionals with a broad range of experience in both the civilian and defence aerospace sectors. A major modelling, simulation and analysis service that we provide is the probabilistic range safety analysis of aerospace vehicles using the Range Safety Template Toolkit.

Aerospace Vehicle and Weapon Modelling

Shoal personnel have significant experience working within our in-house Range Safety Template Toolkit environment as well as the MATLAB and Simulink modelling environments to develop aerospace weapon and vehicle models. The modelling process often involves interpreting incomplete sensor and system data supplied in various formats to populate system models.

Flight Safety Analysis – Probabilistic Range Safety Solutions

Since 2004, we have developed the state-of-the-art Range Safety Template Toolkit, in partnership with the Defence Science and Technology Group. This toolkit allows us to develop high-fidelity aerospace vehicle analyses, inclusive of failure behaviours, using 6-degree of freedom models and massive Monte Carlo simulations. The resulting safety products (such as Weapon Danger Areas) can be tailored to client’s needs, and are delivered as part of a comprehensive Risk Hazard Analysis report.

Safety Risk Analysis for Mission Success

Our analysis techniques provide clients with an in-depth understanding of the risk profiles of their planned missions, allowing them to liaise with regulators in an effective and transparent manner. Compared with deterministic methods, probabilistic approaches can account for more complex vehicle failure modes and allow more informed decision making to occur. Born out of a highly assured, Australian Defence safety environment, our robust, tailorable approach allows for high degrees of operational flexibility and hence optimal mission planning outcomes.
